What your PC and browser need

GlirOS has no hard minimum except Windows: it fits the AI model to your PC. This page says what we recommend for the Windows app and for the web version, and what each one can do.

The Windows app

The app runs the models on your own PC, on the graphics card when it has one.

Windows

Windows 11, or Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, on a 64-bit Intel or AMD PC (x64). PCs with an ARM processor can't run the app; they can use the web version. On Windows 10 the window has a plain title bar.

Microsoft Edge WebView2

The app shows its window with WebView2. Windows 11 has it. On Windows 10, GlirOS offers Microsoft's download if it is missing.

Memory

16 GB of memory is recommended. With less, GlirOS picks a smaller model: Qwen 3.5 2B runs on a PC with 4 GB of memory.

Disk space

The models take the space: 1.9 to 15.4 GB each for the ones GlirOS suggests, 17 to 23 GB for the larger ones on its list. Keep about 5 GB free for a small model, and 20 GB or more if you want larger ones. Each model is downloaded once and checked before it is used.

Installing

GlirOS.exe installs itself in your own user folder: no admin rights and no separate installer. It isn’t signed with a certificate Windows trusts yet, so Windows names an unknown publisher and may say Windows protected your PC; choose More info, then Run anyway.

Internet

Only to download models, and for what you switch on: web search, cloud models and online tools. Once its models are downloaded, the app works offline.

Which model GlirOS suggests

When you first start the app, it checks your PC and suggests a model; you can pick another in Settings > Models. Only a separate graphics card's own memory counts as graphics memory. Built-in graphics share the PC's ordinary memory.

GlirOS suggests only models it has tested. How fast a model answers depends on your PC: Settings > Benchmark measures it on yours. Making pictures, video and voices needs more: on a small card, GlirOS may set the chat model aside while it makes a picture. A PC without a graphics card

Graphics drivers

This is our advice, not a measurement. GlirOS uses the graphics card through Vulkan, so an up-to-date driver gives it the best chance of using your card.

Update it from the maker

Before the first model download, update the driver from the graphics maker and restart the PC: NVIDIA (the NVIDIA app, or nvidia.com/drivers), AMD (AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, or amd.com/support), Intel (Intel Driver & Support Assistant, or intel.com). If in doubt, use your PC maker's support page.

Stable, not beta

Choose the latest stable driver, not a beta. Windows Update offers drivers too, but they are often older. Never use a driver-download site or a tool that scans for drivers.

See that it works

In GlirOS, Settings > Models says Runs fast on your graphics card for a model that fits, and the loaded model shows how many of its layers are on the GPU. GlirOS doesn't show the driver version: Windows' Device Manager or the maker's app does.

Videos on an NVIDIA card

Making videos with an NVIDIA card's own encoder needs driver 610 or newer. With an older driver GlirOS uses another encoder and says so.

The web version

The web version runs in the browser, with nothing to install. It is for trying GlirOS and for using it from a phone; the full app is the Windows app.

Models in the browser

The web version's models run on the graphics card through WebGPU, from Qwen 3.5 2B (suggested, about 1.4 GB) to Qwen 3.5 9B (about 5.4 GB). A current Chrome or Edge on a computer has WebGPU. Each model is downloaded once into the browser; clearing the site's data removes it.

Without WebGPU

Where the browser has no WebGPU, the models say Can't run in this browser. GlirOS Helper (Lite) still runs on the processor in every modern browser, more slowly, and a cloud model works with your own API key.

Built-in graphics

On a PC with only built-in graphics, GlirOS asks before it loads a model there, because it can make the PC slow. The other ways are High performance in Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics, or GlirOS Helper (Lite).

Phones, tablets and Macs

There is no Mac, Android or iPhone app; the web version works on them in the browser. Phones are weak for models of their own, so on a phone the best way is to open your own PC with remote access, or to use a cloud model. Remote access needs Chrome 137, Safari 17 or Firefox 129, or newer.

Only in the Windows app

The larger models on your graphics card, project folders, connectors (MCP), Research and the AI media add-ons are in the Windows app only.

Check this browser

See what this browser can do with GlirOS. The check runs only in this page: nothing is sent anywhere, and it is gone when you close the page. For the Windows app, the app itself checks your PC when you install it.

The check needs JavaScript.
